Local News | Javea - A town for all ages and all nationalities in 2024

Why we choose to live in Javea.

Over the years Javea has grown from a small fishing village to a thriving multi-cultural cosmopolitan town. It´s not only a tourist destination but a full-time home for many nationalities and age groups.

Once a retirement destination for many British and German pensioners, Javea has evolved to become a town where families from all over the world want to call their home. The culture, weather and environment offer an amazing place to raise a family. The growth of the international schools of Lady Elizabeth and Xábia International College, both building new state of the art campuses in the area provide a choice of education, although, many families choose the state system in Javea. Young children thrive in the Spanish system giving them native learning of Spanish, becoming bilingual and giving them a great start in life.

Javea not only offers a great environment for families, but it has also been attracting “digital nomads” who enjoy the many benefits Javea has to offer from the great beaches, the social life, and vibrant restaurant scene. There are a variety of sporting activities from hiking, tennis, padel clubs, sailing, water sports, and multiple clubs for adults and children.

For beach life, Javea is home to Grandella Beach, voted one of the best beaches in Spain several years running. The beach is a beautiful cove with aquamarine waters and rocky areas to enjoy a relaxing scuba dive. The main Arenal beach in Javea is perfect for families offering a safe environment with a pedestrian promenade edged by a huge chose of bars and restaurants. There are also several smaller coves offering fantastic scenery and beautiful Mediterranean waters.

Javea has over 250 restaurants and for a town with a permanent population of 30,000 people this is quite extraordinary. You´d be hard pushed to find another town in the world with as many restaurants. The gastronomy culture in Javea is ingrained in all it´s citizens with a passion for eating the best fresh ingredients that are on offer. The range of food is immense from local tapas bars to Michelin star restaurants, Javea has something for everyone when it comes to food.

Javea is not only for foreigners the local Spanish are truly in love with their town and have a busy program of fiestas throughout the year. Keeping the tradition of their parents and grand parents alive. Not a month goes by without a fiesta to celebrate a special saint or event. Everyone is welcome to get involved in the fiestas and the Sant Juan celebration in June is a highlight for every nationality in Javea.

There is really no need to leave Javea when you live here as it offers everything from shopping to sports and entertain but if you do want to visit another town or city it is around an hours’ drive to Alicante and Valencia and both these cities’ airports. Javea is also very close to the popular towns of Denia and Moraira, and if you want a crazy night out, then Benidorm is only 30 minutes away!
