The data indicates that a considerable portion of Javea’s population is made up of European and other foreign nationals. While the total population of Javea is approximately 30,249 increasing by 5.1% from 2021 to 2023 (Its peak being in 2013 with 33,149) the number of non-Spanish residents is significantly large, making up 47% of the population, highlighting the town's appeal as a destination for expatriates.

Main European Nationalities

Several European nationalities are prominently represented in Javea. The most significant communities include:

  • United Kingdom: With 4,967 residents, or 16% of the total population, the British community is by far the largest foreign group permanently residing in Javea. This is reflective of the long-standing popularity of the Costa Blanca among British expatriates, who are attracted by the area's pleasant climate, lifestyle, and amenities.
  • Netherlands: The Dutch community is also substantial, comprising 991 permanent residents. The Dutch have increasingly found Javea to be a desirable location, contributing to the town's multicultural environment increasing by 23.5% from 2021 – 2023.   • France: With 479 residents, the French community is another significant group. The proximity to France and the shared Mediterranean culture makes Javea an attractive destination for French nationals.
  • Ukraine: Understandable due to recent events the Ukrainian population has increased by 160% in the last 2 years and now totals 412 residents.
  • Belgium: There are 345 Belgian residents in Javea, indicating a strong presence in the town. The Belgian community adds to the diverse European mix in the area.
  • Germany: The German population is also notable, with 293 residents, continuing the trend of Northern European nationals choosing Javea as a place to live.

Non-European Nationalities

Another significant part of Javea’s population is comprised of expatiates from non-European countries, making 14% of Javea’s population, mostly from Latin America. These include:

  • South Americans: Make up a good proportion of the Javea population, the highest nationality being Columbian, with a considerable increase of 37.5% from 2021 to 2023.
    • Columbia: With 1311 residents or 4% of the total population, Columbia is by far the largest non-European nationality. This is due to the better quality of life in Spain, and they don’t have to learn another language!
    • Venezuela: The next highest South American foreign national is Venezuela with 718 registered. Increasing by 33.2% from 2021 – 2023.
    • Argentina: Is the next largest South American country with 340 registered, this increased by 20.6% from 2021 – 2023.
  • Morrocco: With 902 residents or 3% of the population. This is lower than the national percentage of 16.4%. And Morrocco’s close proximity makes Spain a natural destination for Moroccans seeking better opportunities or fleeing difficult conditions in their home country.
  • United States: This may be a surprising one, but there are 144 permanent residents from the USA in Javea. And quickly growing, with and increase of nearly 50% in the last 2 years. They are most likely retirees looking to relocate to Spain.
